Lady Tams cap cage twin sweep for FEU

FAR Eastern University completed a basketball double sweep as the Lady Tamaraws easily preserved their perfect record at the end of the first round of the UAAP women’s tournament yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena.

The Lady Tamaraws overwhelmed La Salle, 70-49, to stay unbeaten in seven games just a week after the Tamaraws also swept the men’s basketball action for a 7-0 card.

Camille Sambile posted 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lady Tamaraws, the champions in the last two seasons who extended their amazing win streak to 25 games.

Marites Albano, Jack Tanaman and Vangie Soriano also finished with a combined 34 points in the lopsided match.

FEATURED STORIES

The feat replicated FEU’s double sweep of the first round in 2010, although both teams then fell short in the finals.

National University grabbed solo second at 6-1 following an 81-69 drubbing of University of Santo Tomas. La Salle fell to third at 5-2.

The Lady Bulldogs turned the tight game around with a fourth-quarter outburst where Kristine Abriam and Afril Bernardino combined for 20 of the team’s 30 points.

Abriam paced the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points. Bernardino added 15 points and 14 rebounds  and Anne Gupilan contributed 14 points and 14 boards.

The Tigresses fell into a tie at 3-4 with Adamson and University of the Philippines.

Adamson routed winless Ateneo, 81-53, while UP bested University of the East, 67-55.
