MORE than going to Spain, Marcus Douthit is ecstatic over seeing his name in the record books.
The 6-foot-10 naturalized center will go down in Philippine basketball history as the catalyst who helped bring Gilas Pilipinas back to the world championship after 35 years.
“Everybody on this team and the organization are now part of history—that’s the most amazing feeling,” said Douthit.
Though Douthit, 33, was pulled out from the game late in the second quarter due to an aggravated shin, Gilas still managed to conquer South Korea, 86-79.
“I don’t even think about Spain. All of us are going down in the record books and that’s big for me,” said the former LA Lakers draftee.
“It’s a great feeling and no one can compare this feeling to anything else in the world.”
But it was never easy for Douthit, who first suited up for the first-generation Gilas two years ago. He is still in pain after his right shin got banged up anew against Korea.
“It’s hurting a lot,” said Douthit. “Got to rest up for Spain.”
