Shakey’s VL Open up Sunday
Former champion Philippine Army headlines a formidable cast of teams seeing action in the season-ending Open Conference of the Shakey’s V-League kicking off Sunday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Boasting veteran internationalists, the Lady Troopers loom as the favorites in a strong 10-team field that also includes last year’s runner-up Cagayan Valley and Smart-Maynilad.
Out to power Philippine Army’s bid are former league MVPs Nene Bautista and Mary Jean Balse, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Joanne Buñag and sisters Michelle and Mayette Carolino.

Ateneo standout Alyssa Valdez spearheads Smart-Maynilad, along with Sue Roces, Rubie de Leon and Charo Soriano.
Meralco, Philippine Air Force, Philippine National Police, Philippine Navy and Far Eastern University have also bolstered their lineups in what could be the most competitive Open Conference yet.
