2 Smart Gilas stints under scrutiny

After sounding out the Philippine Basketball Association for help, officials of the Smart Gilas Pilipinas national team met last night to find out what went wrong in the RP five’s last two international campaigns.

“We’ll make an overall assessment of the team,” said Smart Gilas team manager Frankie Lim before presiding over the meeting with the coaching staff led by Serbian Rajko Toroman.

The Nationals, who plunged back into practice yesterday after a five-day break, landed seventh in the Champions Cup held in Doha, Qatar, in May then finished fourth last week during the Jones Cup in Taipei.

Lim said the idea of including more PBA players in the lineup for the Asian Games in Guangzhou later this year was also in the agenda during the meeting.
