Oscar Pistorius arrives in South African court
PRETORIA, South Africa — Oscar Pistorius has arrived at a South African court ahead of the expected indictment of the double-amputee Olympian on a premeditated murder charge.
Pistorius stood Monday in the dock of the Pretoria courtroom and wiped away tears. He also held hands with his brother Carl and sister Aimee. Prosecutors say Pistorius will be formally charged for the Valentine’s Day slaying of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. They say Pistorius killed Steenkamp after an argument. He says he mistakenly shot her, believing she was an intruder in his home. The athlete is expected to go on trial in early 2014. He faces a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years in prison if convicted of premeditated murder.
