Emilio Aguinaldo College shoots for a third straight victory when it collides today with slumping Mapua in the 89th NCAA basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Gametime is at 6 p.m. with the Generals looking to grab solo sixth spot over idle St. Benilde, whose game against Perpetual Help last Monday was postponed due to heavy rains.

The Cardinals are on a six-game slide with their last loss coming against the Blazers, 64-83, last Saturday.

NCAA Management Committee chair Dax Castellano of St. Benilde said they could still postpone the game today if the weather conditions don’t improve.

“It depends on the weather tomorrow, but an announcement will be made as soon as possible,” said Castellano in a text message to reporters.

The Generals put together a solid second half to dump the Arellano Chiefs, 79-63, last Saturday with Happi Noube and Igee King leading the charge.

Noube and King combined for 39 points including 32 in the last two quarters to help the Generals complete the come-from-behind victory.

The Cardinals couldn’t keep up with the Blazers’ running game and lost the rebounding battle, 35-45. CJ Isit proved to be a bright spot for the Cardinals with his season-high 15 points although he went scoreless in the final quarter.

Meanwhile, Castellano said last Monday’s games pitting Lyceum and San Sebastian as well as St. Benilde and Perpetual Help will be likely rescheduled after the last playdate of the first round.

The first round schedule wraps up Saturday when San Beda and Letran meet in a rematch of last year’s finals.
