Cabrera keeps overall lead in 3 divisions

Gabriel Cabrera remained on top of the overall standings in three divisions despite a futile campaign in the sixth leg of the 2013 Coca-Cola Karting Super Series held at Enchanted Kingdom Kart Track in Sta, Rosa, Laguna over the weekend.

The 13-year-old Cabrera was runner-up in the ROK Clubman to raise his total points to  306, third placer in the Formula SL Novice division that hiked his total to 418 points and finished third anew in the ROK Junior class to keep top spot in the Junior Karter of the Year race with 281 points, a 35-point advantage over Raymond Cudala.

Aside from racing through a heavy downpour, Cabrera lost his momentum after being hit from behind twice.

The young ace respected the decision of officials to continue the race.

“Winning on my own merits is more honorable than resorting to dirty tactics,” said Cabrera.  “I believe in the wisdom of our race stewards.  Besides, it’s more fun to win the race clean.”

“As I’ve said before, winning isn’t everything.  These things will surely help me in my racing career.” Steve Silva, Contributor
