MANILA, Philippines – UAAP commissioner Chito Loyzaga stood by his decision to suspend University of the East’s Charles Mammie and Lord Casajeros for two-games Wednesday.

Loyzaga said that based upon “thorough review” of UE’s game against Far Eastern University last Sunday, Mammie committed his third unsportsmanlike foul for sticking out his foot on the “landing area” of the shooter.

“Based on the rules of the UAAP, you get a warning first, second offense gets a one-game suspension and the third a two-game suspension,” Loyzaga explained in a press conference held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum after Ateneo scored a big win over FEU.

Loyzaga also said that Casajeros “deserved a higher penalty” after hitting Tamaraws’ guard Terrence Romeo from behind with “either a punch or elbow to bring him down.”

“In my opinion, if that foul was seen by the referee, it should’ve been a disqualifying foul right then and there.”

A videotape review of the first round meeting between De La Salle and Ateneo also had Green Archers point guard Thomas Torres committing his second unsportsmanlike foul, thus drawing an automatic one-game ban, during their game against University of the Philippines on Saturday according to Loyzaga.

“That was his (Torres) second unsportsmanlike. The first unsportsmanlike foul was not called but based on videotape review against Ateneo, if my memory is correct, it was a situation between Torres and Erram. Both were given a warning.”

Loyzaga added that he is open to talk to UE regarding the matter.

“I might meet with them later on and I’m welcome to meet with them. I’ll tell them what my side is. If they don’t like what they hear, then  it’s OK. If they want to take the necessary steps and make an appeal to the technical committee they have the liberty to do that.”
