MANILA, Philippines — University of the East is set to file an appeal to the UAAP technical committee in hopes that the two-game suspensions handed to its players Charles Mammie and Lord Casajeros by commissioner Chito Loyzaga will be downgraded if not lifted.
“We talked with the commissioner first to clarify things about the calls yesterday about the unsportsmanlike conduct which led to the two-game suspension of Charles Mammie and Lord Casajeros. He explained it very well to us but as an obligation to the university of course, we will file an appeal, it’s not a protest but an appeal, tomorrow (Thursday). And we will elevate it to the technical committee,” said UE Board representative Rod Roque Wednesday.
“On the angle what was seen on television it was not clear. On our side, it was not intentional because on what we saw it was Romeo who made the first push. He pushed him (Casajeros) on the back and instinct is for you to remove whatever obstruction it is on your back. So that’s what we saw,” added Roque, who also serves as UE’s athletic director.
Roque also said that UE is also willing to elevate its appeal all the way up to the UAAP Board if it doesn’t get through the technical committee.
