Filipino Treat Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot, seeded 16th in the men’s doubles, get their US Open bid going against an Austrian pair in Flushing Meadows, New York.
Huey and Inglot, who reached the third round in 2011, will battle Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer in a first round match yet to be scheduled. Huey and Inglo also made it to the third round in this year’s French Open and Wimbledon.
The winners of two titles last year, Huey and Inglot are looking for breakthrough performance in a Grand Slam event. They were runners-up in Indian Wells earlier this year and in the Salem Open which was a buildup for the US Open.
But Huey, the 27-year-old cornerstone of the Philippine team, will first see action late Wednesday in the mixed doubles competitions with American Raquel Kops-Jones.
Huey and Kops-Jones will take on Victoria Duval and Donald Young of the United States.
Ranked 32nd in the world in doubles, Huey will lead the PH Davis Cup team against New Zealand on Sept. 13 to 15 at Plantation Bay Spa and Resort in Lapu Lapu City. Marc Anthony Reyes
