MANILA, Philippines — University of the East got a slight reprieve on Friday as UAAP commuted Lord Casarejos’ suspension to a lone game although center Charles Mammie remained suspended for two.
The league technical committee, with all members present led by chairman, Fr. Emerito de Sagon, made the decision on UE’s appeal to downgrade Casajeros’ ban and lift Mammie’s after a two-hour meeting at the Blue Eagle Gym in the Ateneo campus.
Casajeros’ penalty was reduced from two games to one because it was the Warriors’ swingman’s first suspension, and his alleged “punch” on Far Eastern University’s guard Terrence Romeo wasn’t clear on the video review.
But it was only half a victory for the Warriors’ management as the technical committee upheld its two-game suspension on Mammie, who will be missing action in UE’s games against La Salle and National University.
According to the committee, it was clear that Mammie, who served another suspension earlier in the season, had the intention to hurt as he “double-stepped” on Romeo’s foot.
UE, through its board representative Rod Roque, said last Wednesday it was willing to elevate the matter all the way up to the UAAP Board, but no decision was announced as of posting time.
The Warriors are pressed for time, though, as they face the Bulldogs this Saturday at 4 p.m.
