TAGUM CITY—Samantha Cambronero capped her remarkable performance in the pool with two more victories yesterday, bringing her gold-medal collection to six and boosting the stock of Davao City in the overall race of the 2013 Batang Pinoy Mindanao qualifying leg here.
The high school senior from Precious International School of Davao topped the girls’ 13-15 100-meter breaststroke and 200m individual medley finals at Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Center as Davao City increased its golden harvest in the pool to 29.
Fritz Jun Rodriguez accounted for five of those golds with Katrina Nicole Aguelo, Sheanetelle Fox, Chyll Bea Amparo and Juan Antonio Mendoza also posting at least two victories each for Davao City.
The city also struck in taekwondo and judo and scored a sprinkling of victories in weightlifting, chess and cheerleading to grab the overall lead in a field of 74 contingents from local government units with 49 gold, 40 silver and 26 bronze medals.
Winners for Davao City in judo were Andre Tequin (-55kg), James Ryan (-73kg) and Chino Tancontian (-50kg) for boys and Jhanen Marcos (-40kg), Sydney Tancontian (-70kg), Steffany Calamba (-44kg) and Charisse Aseneta (-52kg) for girls.
General Santos City lay second overall with a 33-23-19 medal collection after four days of the games sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission for athletes 15 years old and younger.
Running third was Iligan City with 9-16-11 followed by host Davao del Norte (8-6-20).
