CYNA Rodriguez returned a level-par 72 yesterday and completed a coast-to-coast romp in the third leg of the ICTSI Philippine Ladies golf tour at the tough Aoki Course of Eagle Ridge golf complex in Cavite.
Rodriguez had two birdies and two bogeys in a 37-35 card, playing pressure-free the entire day to win by eight shots over Jayvie Agojo and duplicate Dottie Ardina’s feat in the first leg of the pilot tour.
Like Ardina, Rodriguez won her pro debut and she put herself in position to duplicate Ardina’s back-to-back caper.
The victory was worth P100,000 for Rodriguez, who tallied 212 over 54 holes after earlier rounds of 69 and 71. No other player cracked par yesterday except Anya Tanpinco, who shot a 71 for fourth.
Agojo also carded a 72 and nipped Apple Fudolin by a shot for second spot at 220. Fudolin fired a 73 and finished three shots ahead of Tanpinco.
Sarah Ababa fired a 75 and was fifth at 232 with Heidi Chua ballooning to an 80-233.
“I was never overconfident,” Rodriguez said of her final round. “I took it hole by hole.”
Rodriguez practically wrapped it up on Thursday with that 71 as no one matched her effort over the layout considered as one of the toughest in the land.
Reb Bareng (79) and Lucy Landicho (73) shared seventh place at 235. Lovelynn Guio-guio limped home with a 81 for 236, followed by Tracy Que with 78-239. Musong R. Castillo
