MANILA, Philippines—Defending champion San Beda avenged its stunning first round loss to Lyceum with an 81-63 blowout in the NCAA Season 89 men’s basketball tournament Saturday night at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Ola Adeogun scored 19 points while Baser Amer added 17 for the Red Lions, who stayed within just a game behind the top spot with an 8-2 mark.

The Pirates, who failed to follow up their close win over San Sebastian in their previous game, slid to 3-7 despite getting a boost from returning guard Dexter Zamora.

Zamora, who served a one-game suspension, came back with a game-high 20 points.

Lyceum got off to a flat start but gained steam in the second half as it managed to move to within eight late in the third period before San Beda pulled away anew.

Ryusei Koga chipped in 13 points for the Red Lions, who lost, 66-70, in their first meeting with the Pirates.
