MICHAEL Banaria unloaded nine of his 17 points in the pivotal third quarter as Fatima drubbed New Era, 71-55, on Friday in the National Athletics Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (Naascu) at RTU gym in Mandaluyong.
It was the Phoenix’s third win in five games, virtually giving them automatic entry to the second round of eliminations. The Hunters are in danger of getting the boot at 1-4.
Fatima led by as many as 25 points behind its relentless fastbreaking plays, topped by Romyl Jornacion, whose jumper gave the Phoenix a 58-33 early in the fourth.
Later, Rizal Technological notched its fourth victory by beating fellow newcomer Polytechnic University of the Philippines, 66-58.
The Blue Thunder leaned on point guard Jopet Quiro who sprayed 17 points, while Elias Sarona added 11.
In women’s action, RTU made it a double victory when the Lady Blue Thunder slammed the Lady Phoenix, 58-45, for their second win in three games, Fatima dropped to 1-2.
