Centro Escolar sweeps Naascu elims 1st round

CENTRO Escolar downed Fatima, 63-59, yesterday to complete a first round sweep in the National Athletics Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (Naascu) basketball tournament at CEU Gym.

Joseph Sedurifa and Mon Alvin Abundo combined for 28 points to pace the Scorpions who picked up their sixth straight victory while sending the Phoenix to their third loss in six games.

Defending champion St. Clare College, flashing overpowering form after an opening-day loss to CEU, outplayed City University of Pasay, 109-55, to keep second place with a 5-1 slate.

Cameroonian giant Amadeo Woundo made his first appearance this season after a knee injury and scored 12 points for the Saints while providing muscle inside the paint.

Comebacking veteran Jason Ibay paced the Saints with 26 points while Dennis Santos chipped in 13.

In juniors action, Patrick Aquino scattered 21 points to lead CEU over St. Clare, 68-60. The Baby Scorpions hiked their record to 4-0, while the Baby Saints slumped to 2-2.
