MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas and La Salle kicked of their title bids in the men’s and women’s division on winning note Wednesday in the UAAP season 76 taekwondo tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Growling Tigers, seeking their third consecutive championship and 12th overall, made short of work of Ateneo, 5-2.
The back-to-back seeking Lady Archers, meanwhile, pulled off contrasting wins as they nipped University of the East, 4-3, and routed National University, 6-1, to gain the early lead.
In other men’s matches, La Salle tripped UE, 5-2, and University of the Philippines escaped Far Eastern University, 4-3.
The Tigresses, meanwhile, chalked up a 5-2 victory over the Lady Bulldogs even as the Lady Eagles edged the Lady Warriors, 4-3.
The lady jins of NU and UE dropped to 0-2.
