Cagayan-Army clash a title preview?

CAGAYAN Valley and Army put their unbeaten records on the line today when they slug it out in what has been billed as a championship preview of the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Boasting formidable rosters, the Rising Suns and the Army Women take the floor at 4 p.m. with the winner getting the inside track in the race for the No. 1 seed heading into the quarterfinals.

Already assured of a quarterfinal  berth after a convincing win over Far Eastern U last Friday, the Rising Suns, with a 5-0 card, are out to prove their championship credentials with a squad bannered by Thai imports Kannika Thipachot and Phomia Soraya.

The Army Women, the 2011 champions currently holding a 3-0 record, will secure at least a playoff for a quarterfinal berth with a win.

Winless Navy and Far Eastern U fight for survival in the first game at 2 p.m. The Lady Sailors hope to end a three-game slide against the 0-4 Lady Tamaraws.

With Air Force and Meralco slowly getting the inside track in the chase for quarterfinal berths, the Lady Sailors and Lady Tamaraws are left with no choice but to go all out in today’s crucial duel.

Mary Palma and Marie Bases are tasked to turn the fortunes around of the Lady Tamaraws, who dropped a 16-25, 17-25, 22-25 decision to the Rising Suns last Thursday.

The match against the Lady Sailors could be the Lady Tamaraws’ best chance for  a breakthrough as Navy’s experienced roster has also struggled.

Also starring for the Rising Suns’ is Angeli Tabaquero, a key member of the national team who will be ranged against veterans Mary Jean Balse, Nerissa Bautista, Michelle Carolino and Tina Salak.
