Cagayan eyes Shakey’s V-League elims sweep

CAGAYAN tries to complete a sweep of the eliminations when it tangles with winless Philippine National Police in the Shakey’s V League Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Rising Suns, who smashed Philippine Army, 25-9, 25-16, 25-20, last Sunday are looking for their seventh straight win in the
2 p.m. match before taking a break from league play.

Some of Cagayan’s standouts are leaving for Thailand to represent the country in the Asian Seniors Women’s Volleyball Championship opening this weekend.

Struggling Smart unveils Thai ace Phe Nook Kesinee when it battles Philippine Navy in the second game at 4 p.m.

Out to arrest a two-game slide and formalize their entry to the quarterfinals, the Net Spikers tapped Phe Nook to reinforce their depleted roster against the Lady Sailors who are gunning for a second straight victory.

The Thai’s presence will give the Net Spikers another attacking option after Suzanne Roces and Gretchel Soltones groped for form in the last two games.

Tied for third with idle Meralco, the Net Spikers absorbed a stunning  20-25, 16-25, 17-25 loss to Philippine Air Force last Friday.

The Net Spikers will also be boosted by the return of Maru Banaticla who missed the last game due to a school commitment.

Navy, which nailed its first win at the expense of Far Eastern U, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17, last Sunday, is also in dire need of a victory to rev up its quarterfinal drive.

With Phomia Soraya leading the attack, the Lady Rising Suns overwhelmed powerhouse Army in straight sets.
