MANILA, Philippines – Unbeaten Cagayan Valley got a surprise challenge from winless Philippine National Police as it eked out a thrilling 22-25, 29-27, 25-13, 20-25, 15-9 win in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Aiza Maizo poured in 19 points for the Lady Rising Suns, who completed a seven-game sweep of the elimination round.
Cagayan, fresh off a straight-set conquest of erstwhile undefeated Philippine Army last Sunday, had trouble against PNP, bannered by Janine Marciano and Thai import Sangmuang Patcharee.
Marciano and Patcharee teamed up to cause trouble for the league-leading team with a combined 45 points.
Help came for Maizo with Wenneth Eulalio and Angeli Tabaquero netting 16 points each.
