MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian tightened its hold on the fourth spot after getting back at Mapua, 72-63, in the NCAA Season 89 men’s basketball tournament Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
CJ Perez scored 19 points as the Stags, who raised their record to 7-5 and were now two games ahead of the Jose Rizal U Heavy Bombers in the race for the fourth spot, avenged their double overtime defeat at the hands of the Cardinals back in the first round.
Veteran guard Jovit dela Cruz added 14 while Jamil Ortuoste chipped in 11 more to help San Sebastian extend its winning streak to three games.
The Cardinals, who suffered their 11th loss in 12 games, remained in striking distance early but faded as the game went on.
Mapua’s Joseph Eriobu, who exploded for a career-high 30 points during the two teams earlier meeting, was held to just seven points.
