MANILA, Philippines – “We feel that we were robbed of a win,” said Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao after his team lost by a point to Barangay Ginebra following a controversial call by the referee in the dying seconds.
For Guiao, the foul called against his center Beau Belga that awarded Barangay Ginebra San Miguel three free throws to win, 101-100 in controversial fashion Saturday night “was an obvious no foul.”
“We will file a protest for whatever it’s worth,” said Guiao.
“Referee Quilinguen does not deserve to officiate in this league,” Guaio added, referring to the official Nol Quilinguen who blew the whistle on Belga as Baracael attempted a three-pointer from the left wing. “Tinawag niya nung nasa kamay na ni AZ (Reid) yung bola. Masyadong delayed [He called it when the ball was already in the hands of AZ. The call was delayed].”
Instead of assuring itself of a quarterfinals spot and a good shot at the top four, the Elasto Painters fell to 4-4.
“We will write a letter of protest to the comissioner. The referee decided the outcome of the game,” said ROS team owner Raymond Yu.
Rain or Shine will submit its letter of protest Sunday.
