12:20 PM September 15, 2013

MANILA, Philippines — Adamson outshone University of Santo Tomas, 20-22, 21-19, 16-14, as the two toughest UAAP women’s beach volley teams collided in a rain-hit finals opener on Sunday at the UE Caloocan sandcourt.

The Lady Falcons’ tandem of Amanda Villanueva and Sheila Mae Pineda dug out of a 12-14 hole in the decisive set and bagged the match when a hit from Tigress’ Maru Banaticla sailed out.

Game two of the best-of-three series is set on September 20, 8:30 a.m. at the same venue.

Earlier, Banaticla and Pamela Lastimosa carried three-peat seaking UST to the finals after escaping Kim Fajardo and Cienne Cruz of La Salle Lady Spikers, 21-14, 11-21, 15-7, in a rubber-match.
