MANILA, Philippines — University of the East escaped University of the Philippines, 76-73, Wednesday and thwarted the Maroons’ bid to dodge a winless season in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
The Red Warriors concluded their campaign in season 76 with a 7-7 card, as center Charles Mammie scored 21 and hauled down 18 rebounds while Lord Casajeros notched a career-best 17 points on his last game in the UAAP.
Down four, 68-72, with exactly two minutes to play, UE snatched the game back with an 8-1 blast and kept UP on a losing track — 21 straight to be exact — dating back to August 2012.
It was another miserable 0-14 outing for the Maroons, replicating their 2007 and 2010 seasons.
