‘No regrets,’ says King Eagle Ravena

MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo bid goodbye to an era on Wednesday night.

As the Blue Eagles saw their 14-season reign in the UAAP final four and a historic five-peat run snapped, Kiefer Ravena refused to dwell on the negative.

“At least there’s something new,” Ravena told INQUIRER.net with a laugh. “There’s always something brighter into all of these things happening.”

“No regrets. We’re just a loss short of making it to the final four. We’re still happy with what we got and we just got to keep on improving,” he also said.

The Blue Eagles comeback from 13-points down in the last two minutes ultimately fell short as University of Santo Tomas seized the No. 4 spot with an 82-74 win.

Ravena had 20 points for the Blue Eagles in a losing effort.

“The effort was there, the heart was there. It’s just the breaks of the game,” Ravena also said. “The referees were super inconsistent but we can’t blame them.”

“Hopefully all the rules can be fixed [next year], so everything’s clear,” he also said.

As Ateneo ushers in a new era — that without Ryan Buenafe, Juami Tiongson, Poy Erram and Frank Golla —  Ravena will be left to carry the Blue Eagles back.

“Siguro we’ll be a lot more healthy next year, and we’ll just have to play our best,” Ravena said.
