Golfers out of SEA Games roster
There won’t be a golf team for the Philippines in the Burma Southeast Asian Games.
Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. yesterday said the National Golf Association of the Philippines has pulled out its players, including members of the reigning Putra Cup champion team, from the national delegation bound for the games on Dec.11 to 22.
Cojuangco said the ladies squad couldn’t form a competitive team after two of its mainstays— Dottie Ardina and Jayvee Agojo—turned professional recently while Rico Hoey and Jobim Carlos, stars of the Putra team, could miss the SEA Games due to pressing school commitments.
Cojuangco said he would discuss the issue of national team players turning professional with the Games and Amusements Board, the regulatory and licensing body for professional athletes.
