MANILA, Philippines — Jay Washington broke out of a slump and towed Globalport to a 113-106 overtime victory over Ginebra, good for a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2013 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Washington had a monster game and made amends for bungling a game-winning attempt at end of regulation by scoring half of the Batang Pier’s output in OT, highlighted by tough fadeaway jumpers.

‘I’ve been struggling all conference and I finally found [my shot],” said Washington, who posted 30 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.

The victory propelled the Batang Pier to a first-ever playoffs appearance in franchise history, concluding the brief elimination round of the season-ending conference with a 4-5 card.

But Globalport needed extra five minutes to sink Ginebra as Jayjay Helterband sent the game into OT with a booming triple with 4.2 ticks left.

“It’s always tough playing Ginebra. They have quality superstar players in Jayjay Helterbrand and Mark Caguioa,” said head coach Junel Baculi, who had to wear protective shades during the game because of a minor operation on his eye.

The Kings, meanwhile, missed on the chance to snare one of the top four spots despite Dior Lowhorn’s 41-point effort and dropped to 3-5.

Ginebra faces Talk N’ Text on Sunday.
