Lim shocks Taiwan net ace, gains semis
FILIPINO teenager Albert Lim Jr. shocked second seed Tang Chih-chun of Chinese Taipei, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0, Thursday to reach the semifinals of the China Juniors Tennis 15 in Xiamen.
The 14-year-old Lim, hoping to barge into the top 100 from his current ranking of No. 242, rallied from 1-4 deficit in the second set before outplaying his 17-year-old foe, who is 90th in the world, in the third set.
Lim will next go up against seventh seed Qiu Zhuoyang of China, who also upset No. 3 Oh Chan-yeung, 6-3, 7-6.
Tang broke Lim in the ninth game to take the opening set.
The Taiwanese also had an early break in the second to storm to a 4-1 lead, before the Tarlac-born and Tondo-raised Lim broke back for 4-2 before winning the tiebreaker to even the match. Marc Anthony Reyes
