MANILA, Philippines — When the stakes are high, players do whatever it takes to win.

And Far Eastern University’s Terrence Romeo on Wednesday did whatever it took to distract La Salle’s Jeron Teng, even if it meant doing something out of the ordinary.

In an Instagram video from @BelieveLaSalle that has gone viral, Romeo was seen spitting on his hand and then touching Teng’s hand as the La Salle forward was set to make free throws in the second half of their final four match.

Teng appeared to have been stunned by the gesture from the league’s newly crowned MVP, but didn’t lose his cool and just talked to the referees.

It was sweet revenge for Teng, however, when he later scored on a pivotal putback from his own miss to give the Green Archers the lead for good with 2:33 to play.

Teng had 15 points and 10 rebounds for La Salle, which ultimately eliminated FEU with a 71-68 win to make the finals after five seasons.

Romeo had 14 points for the Tamaraws, but hardly made an impact in the second half when they botched an 11-point lead en route to another miss chance to barge into the finals.

As of this posting, INQUIRER.net was trying to reach Teng and Romeo for their comments.
