MANILA, Philippines — Terrence Romeo’s gesture didn’t come as a surprise to Jeron Teng.

With a lot on the line as De La Salle and Far Eastern University were disputing a spot in the UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball finals, Teng said he “anticipated” that some would go through lengths to get into the head of others.

Romeo was caught on video seemingly spitting on his left hand before wiping it on Teng’s right hand as the Green Archers forward was about to take free throws last Wednesday.

“Some players will really do everything just to distract the opponents, medyo anticipated ko na,” Teng told INQUIRER.net in a text message late Friday.

Teng just kept his cool and got the last laugh as he helped La Salle to a 71-68 victory over FEU, for the school’s first championship berth in five seasons.

“Hindi ko kasi alam na nagdura siya during that time. Hindi ko na lang pinatulan. What’s important is we won,” Teng also said.

Romeo, the newly-minted league MVP, could not be reached for comment.
