GUANGZHOU—Light welterweight Delfin Boholst lost a dull inside slug-out against Byamba Tuvshinvat of Mongolia, 8-1, Friday night to leave the Asian Games campaign of the men’s boxing team to three remaining warriors who will see action at the Fushan Stadium today.
The taller 27-year-old Boholst started tight and got uselessly tied up at mid-ring with his shorter foe who connected with well-chosen punches.
Boholst, who debuted in the 2006 Doha Asian Games, scored a punch late in the second round but Byamba, ahead 5-1, finished pulling away.
Boholst thus joined bantam Charly Suarez, who bungled his Asiad debut by crashing out against a Kazakh on Monday in a bleak start for the Filipinos.
The Saludar brothers, Reynaldo and Victorio, who scored back-to-back victories to pump up Philippine hopes on Thursday, will see action in the second round of the boxing competitions today, together with welterweight Wilfrfedo Lopez.
Flyweight Rey Saludar, who stopped cold his foe from Bhutan, takes on Rai Puran of Nepal; while younger brother Victorio clashes with Jumayev Zarip of Turkministan.
Lopez will fight tough Hussein Arshad of Pakistan.
