MANILA, Philippines — Mighty Sports scored two easy win to get third place in the playoffs while MOB swept the eliminations in the 2013 Danny Espiritu Cup basketball tournament.
MOB blew out Sealions, 97-86, to win all six games and grab an outright passage to the semifinals of the tournament dedicated to the country’s premier sports agent.
Guard Jeff Viernes unloaded a game-best 23 points including five triples.
Mighty Sports, the league’s defending champions, meanwhile, posted 104-86 rout of Naughty Needlez then a 88-79 victory over Expert Global Solutions to finish the elims with a 4-2 card.
Ken Acibar and Robby Celis starred in separate outings for Mighty Sports, which recovered from a 0-2 start in the tournament.
Actor Gerald Anderson had 39 points for Naughty Needlez in a losing effort, though they remain in contention for a semifinals spot as they face Sealions in a knockout match.
EGS, which ended up sixth with a 1-5 record, meanwhile, will have another shot at Mighty Sports as they face in the knockout quarterfinals match on October 6 at Reyes Gym.
