MVP Romeo aims to be ‘more mature’, vows to win UAAP title for FEU

MANILA, Philippines — Even after a dominant season, Terrence Romeo believes he still has room to improve.
The Far Eastern University guard was officially feted for being UAAP season 76’s best player in the men’s division on Saturday just before game two of the men’s basketball finals between La Salle and the University of Sto. Tomas at the Smart Araneta Colisuem.
“I need to mature more and not to be hot-headed,” a cheerful Romeo told reporters in Filipino after the ceremony.
Romeo amassed 75.2857 statistical points, built on an average of 22.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.6 steals in the elimination round.
“I’m so happy because not everyone is given this chance to win the award. My hardwork bore fruit,” he said.
But as dominant as he was in the first 14 games of the season, Romeo barely made an impact in the last two crucial matches of the Tamaraws en route to a failed bid to make the finals.
As he spearheads FEU on his last playing year with RR Garcia gone, Romeo vows to do everything to bring the title back to the Tamaraws.
“That is my ultimate goal. Next year, before I leave FEU, the community has to be proud of us,” Romeo also said.
Romeo became the fourth Tamaraw to win the MVP plum, joining Garcia, Arwind Santos and PBA legend and now FEU assistant coach Johnny Abarrientos.
“I’m so proud because almost all of them succeeded in their careers. Hopefully, I will be the same,” Romeo said.
Romeo also joined La Salle’s Jason Perkins, University of Santo Tomas’ Karim Abdul, University of the East’s Roi Sumang and National University’s Bobby Ray Parks in the mythical five.
University of the Philippines’ Kyles Lao was adjudged as the rookie-of-the year.
