FIFTY top gold medal prospects in the Burma (Myanmar) Southeast Asian Games will be quartered inside Philsports Arena to closely monitor their training for the Dec. 5 to 12 tilt.
Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia announced recently that the move was initiated by Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. who wants a big chunk of the expected 216 athletes who will represent the country to concentrate on their goal to rule their respective events.
The PSC chief said the athletes training in Baguio City, those based abroad and others enrolled in universities will be exempted from the quartered training.
Garcia said the athletes in the new program will be given all the necessary training equipment and nutrition guidance.
Though some national sports associations provide billeting for athletes weeks before international competitions, this is the first time the PSC will launch such a move for all the NSAs.
