MANILA—Batangas shut out Quezon City, 7-0, then clinched its marathon match against Cebu yesterday to tie Manila for the lead of the Dunkin Donuts Baseball Philippines Series 7 at the Rizal Memorial Ballpark.
Jose Miguel San Juan drove in two runs with a single then scored on a triple by Vio Roxas in the 16th inning to lift the Bulls past the Dolphins, 7-5.
The game was tied at 4-4 after the fifth inning and was stopped in the 14th frame due to darkness last week.
The twin victories allowed the Series 3 and Series 5 champions Bulls to keep pace with defending champion Manila, which clobbered Taguig, 8-0, at the Felino Marcelo stadium in Taguig.
With 3-0 cards, Batangas and Manila need just one more win to reach the semifinals.
San Juan, one of the promising youngsters in team manager Randy Dizer’s squad, broke the 4-4 tie by singling home Justin Mathay and Justin Zialcita.
He made it 7-4 after a triple with the Dolphins getting a lone run in the bottom of the 16th for the final tally.
