Knights seek Final 4 bonus vs Altas

Letran shoots for a twice-to-beat bonus in the Final Four against slumping Perpetual Help today in the 89th NCAA basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

A victory by the Knights in the 4 p.m. clash will also tie them with idle San Beda for the lead at 13-3 and assure both squads of the semifinal twice-to-beat edge.

But the Altas are determined to end a two-game slide, following a shocking 66-80 loss to the Lyceum Pirates last Sept. 30.

Running third with an 11-6 card, the Altas are hoping to avoid losing further ground with San Sebastian hot on their heels with a 9-6 record.

The Pirates collide with the St. Benilde Blazers in a battle of teams already out of Final Four contention at 6 p.m.

With San Beda absorbing a shocking loss to Mapua last Monday, the chance to gain the top seeding opened up anew for the Knights, who are coming off a 95-89 overtime victory over the Blazers last Saturday.

Letran coach Caloy Garcia stressed the importance of staying consistent.

The Altas lost two straight for the first time this season, following setbacks to the Lions and the Pirates.
