Treat Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot got back at Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France and Rohan Bopanna of India, 7-6 (4), 5-7, 10-6, Thursday to reach the third round of the men’s doubles of the Shanghai Rolex Masters in Shanghai.
It was the second straight three-set win for the 28-year-old Filipino and Inglot, who downed Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Horia Tecau of Romania, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2), 17-15, in the first round Wednesday.
Bopanna and Vasselin, ranked sixth in the doubles, eliminated Huey and Inglot, 6-4, 7-6 (6) in the semifinals last week en route to ruling the Rakuten Japan Open in Tokyo.
After reaching the quarterfinals of the US Open, Huey and Inglot are trying to improve their rankings in the Asian swing of the Tour. Huey is presently ranked 27th but is expected to move up after the Shanghai Masters which also dangles a $226,000 top purse for the doubles crown. Marc Anthony Reyes
