PH Azkals fall to Chinese Taipei in Peace Cup opener

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Azkals fell to Chinese Taipei, 1-2, Friday night in the opener of 2013 Philippine Peace Cup football invitational held in Panaad Stadium, Bacolod.

The Taiwanese, ranked significantly lower than the Azkals, broke into the scoreboard early in the 14th minute then took the lead over the Filipinos for good in the 65th.

The Azkals’ lone goal came in the first-half injury time courtesy of James Younghusband, and were unable to follow it up in the second half despite several chances.

The Philippines tries to bounce back on Tuesday against Pakistan.

The three-nation tournament is part of the Philippines’ training for the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup in Maldives.
