Mangosong, Gabriel rule Phoenix Motocross

Davaoeño rider Bornok Mangosong stretched his winning run to three as he frustrated battle-tested Glenn Aguilar in the third leg of the Phoenix Motocross series at MX Messiah Fairgrounds, Club Manila East in Taytay, Rizal.

With his third straight win, Mangosong came closer to the prestigious overall title in the race sponsored by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. and organized by Xtreme Adrenaline Sports.

In the distaff side, Pia Gabriel nipped rival Janelle Saulog to take first place. Gabriel also won the second leg.

Aguilar, a 14-time Rider of the Year, engaged Mangosong in a heated battle for supremacy. Aguilar actually won the first heat of the premier Pro Production class.

“I wanted to repeat the win in the second heat. I got the hole shot and a good start but I had some errors and made Bornok to get pass me,” Aguilar said, who finished behind Mangosong in Heat 2 and ahead of youthful Jacob Orbe, a freshman at the Far Eastern University.

“I want to win every race and get the overall title so I pushed,” said Mangosong.

The series will resume on Nov. 3.
