Teen prodigy Miguel Tabuena, just days after bagging silver in the Guangzhou Asian Games, leads the crack amateur cast seeing action in the Canlubang leg of the ICTSI Golf Tour starting Wednesday at the complex’s tough North course.
The straight-hitting 16-year-old will provide for an interesting sidelight in the P1-million event that brings the curtains down on the 13-stage circuit backed by ICTSI and organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc., as he tries to become the first amateur to win in two years in the circuit.
Mark Fernando, the former PH Am king and Tabuena’s teammate in China, was the last player to pull off the feat after triumphing at The Riviera.
Rufino Bayron achieved the same at Valley in 2008, when he defeated Jerome Delariarte in a playoff.
Defending champion Juvic Pagunsan is eyeing repeat in a tournament for the second time this year after winning at Apo Golf in Davao.
MJ Carr Golf Management, Jaguar, Land Rover, Srixon/Cleveland Golf, Callaway and Odyssey and Inquirer Golf Monthly are the other event supporters.
