CAGAYAN Province tries to cap a perfect campaign with a first title in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference today when it clashes with a dangerous Smart Maynilad squad in Game 2 of the finals at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Rising Suns are out to seize the moment as they seek to pull off a historic romp in the country’s premier volleyball league at 4 p.m.
“We have a chance to write history on Sunday (today) so we might as well go for it,” said Cagayan coach Nes Pamilar in Filipino after the Rising Suns’ Game 1 victory.
The Rising Suns drew strength from their tremendous court coverage in turning back the Net Spikers, 26-24, 25-11, 23-25, 11-25, 15-12, in last Tuesday’s opener.
A win by Cagayan will complete a magical 16-game winning run en route to the title—a first in the
V- League.
The deciding Game Three, if necessary, will be played Oct. 27 either at the Arena or the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
“Honestly, we didn’t really expect to have this kind of streak because our mentality is just to play hard and go hard for a win every game,” said Pamilar. “So, most us, including myself, are not really thinking of a sweep, but to win a championship.”
The Rising Suns hope to get the job done with the explosive trio of Thai Kannika Thipachot and former UST stars Aiza Maizo and Angeli Tabaquero leading the way.
The match will be aired live on GMA News TV Channel 11, according to the organizing Sports Vision.
