MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Army leaned on a balanced attack to beat Philippine Air Force, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15, and claimed third place in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Open Conference Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
Rachel Anne Daquis pumped in 17 points while four other Lady Trooper scored in double-digits.
“We’re happy even if we were able to just get third place because we performed well,” said a pleased Army head coach Rico de Guzman
Mary Jean Balse added 15 points, four off blocks, for Army, which was just too much for Air Force on both ends of the court.
League MVP Jovelyn Gonzaga and Nene Bautista chipped in 11 points apiece. Gonzaga also provided the set-clinching block on Joy Cases in the third set.
Iari Yongco paced the Airwomen with 19 points but it wasn’t enough as the Army re-established its game after dropping the second set, where it fell behind early.
Jacqueline Alarca chipped in 10 points for the Lady Troopers, who showed no letup in the fourth set.
