BURMA (Myanmar) organizers have finished the construction of venues and facilities to be used in the 27th Southeast Asian Games two months before the start of the competition.
A total of 25 venues were completed and spruced up for the Dec. 11 to 22 Games, including the two main arenas—Wunna Theikdi and Zeyar Thiri—where the majority of the 33 sports will be played.
The Wunna Theikdi, a stadium that can seat 30,000, will hold the opening and closing ceremonies expected to be attended by about 5,900 athletes and 4,000 sports officials in the Burmese capital of Nay Pyi Taw.
Within the complex are the track and field oval, swimming pool and three indoor stadiums.
Adjacent to the Wunna Theikdi is the Sports Village, an array of single-storey hostels built to accommodate the athletes.
“The entire complex is a city built on a very spacious rice field,” said Philippine chef de mission Jeff Tamayo. “They’re trying their best to cover everything and make the hosting a success.”
