Huey, Inglot turn back second seeds

Top Filipino player Treat Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot scored a stunning upset over second seeds Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan and Jean-Julien Rojer of Netherlands, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8, Wednesday to reach the second round of the Swiss Indoors tennis championships in Basel.

Looking for their first title this year in the tournament among the world’s Top 500 players, Huey and Inglot leaned on big serves and a better percentage on first serves to prevail.

Huey and Inglot forged a third-round battle with Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina who bested Canada’s Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

The Filipino-British tandem, who reached the quarterfinals of this year’s US Open, avenged their 4-6, 6-3, 14-12 loss to Qureshi and Rojer in an ATP tournament in Key Biscayne last March. Marc Anthony Reyes
