Adamson softbelles blank PUP, sweep elims

DEFENDING champion Adamson University shut out Polytechnic University of the Philippines, 4-0, to complete a sweep of the elimination round in the 2013 Cebuana Lhuillier National Women’s Inter-Collegiate Championships in Marikina.

With the victory, the Lady Falcons set up a knockout semifinal duel with National University in a rematch of last year’s UAAP softball finals.

NU wound up second to Central Philippines University in Group B even after the two teams finished with similar 4-1 win-loss records.

The Iloilo-based CPU softbelles took the top seeding due to the winner-over-the-other rule after beating NU on opening day.

The Lady Bulldogs went through the wringer before edging Rizal Technological University, 2-1, to nail a spot in the last four.

Already assured of a semifinal berth, CPU absorbed a 2-4 loss to University of the East in its last match of the classification phase.

Ateneo toppled Bulacan State University, 5-0, to claim the second semifinal berth from Group B where it posted a 4-1 record. The Lady Eagles will meet CPU for a place in the finals.

Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier will grace the awarding ceremonies tomorrow together with Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman and Asaphil secretary general Danny Francisco.

“This has been a good tune-up for the players who will make it to the Blu Girls squad we will send to the Asian Women’s Softball Championship in Taipei next month,” said Lhuillier.  Cedelf P. Tupas
