Adamson rips Ateneo, bags college s’ball crown

ADAMSON University got going in the third inning and went on to clobber Ateneo, 8-1, and capture the 2013 Cebuana Lhuillier National Women’s Inter-Collegiate crown Sunday at Sto. Nino softball field in Marikina.

The Lady Falcons scored three runs in the third inning to climb out of an early hole before pulling away in the next two frames to complete the title romp.

Relief pitcher Julie Marie Muyco, coming in for Rissa Bernardino in the third inning, keyed the Adamson rally with a solid effort on the mound that wiped out an early 1-0 Ateneo lead.

From there, the Adamson offense hummed to life with Bernardino scoring Queenie Sabobo and Angelie Ursabia and Elvie Entrina also contributing another run for a 3-1 advantage.

Ursabia, Entrina, and Bernardino extended the lead to 6-1 in the next frame before Muyco added another Adamson run in the fifth inning.

Ana Santiago, the multititled Adamson coach, said the pitching change in the third inning proved crucial for her team’s win.

“Every time we get into a crucial situation, we were able to adjust,” she said.

In the battle for third place, National University overwhelmed elimination-round conqueror, Central Philippine University, 5-1.
