MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas struck gold in women’s volleyball tournament, even as National University scored the same feat in the men’s basketball division of the 18th Unigames Monday.
The Tigresses defeated upstart Far Eastern University, 25-13, 10-25, 14-25, 25-14, 15-8, for the crown at USLS Covered Courts in Bacolod City as another chapter of Unigames comes to a close.
La Salle tripped Adamson, 25-13, 25-23, 25-10, for third place.
National University, reigning men’s volleyball titlist, also took the home the championship in the annual sports meet with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-10 victory over La Salle.
NU also bagged another title after nipping Ateneo-B, 56-55, in the seniors’ hoops tournament. Cebu champions University of Visayas, meanwhile, salvaged third place by blasting UST, 100-88.
Home team University of St. La Salle reigned in the football tournament, sealing the gold medal with a 4-1 rout of University of the Philippines held in Panaad Stadium.
In athletics, perennial UAAP champion FEU also dominated in the Unigames, finishing in first place overall ahead of St. Benilde and Jose Rizal University.
NCAA’s best San Beda copped 15 golds, 12 silvers and seven bronzes to bag the men’s swimming crown, while UP’s medal haul of 24 golds, two silvers and eight bronzes earned the title in the women’s tie.
