NCAA: Stags beat Altas to claim third spot

MANILA, Philippines — San Sebastian hung on to trip Perpetual Help, 81-71, and claim the third spot in the NCAA Season 89 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday at the Arena in San Juan.

Rookie CJ Perez scored 20 points and collected seven rebounds and five assists as the Stags arranged a Final Four meeting with Letran.

“As much as we want to celebrate, we need to improve more,” said San Sebastian head coach Topex Robinson. “We’re going to be up against an elite team. Every game is going to be a blessing for us. Hopefully we can surprise the NCAA.”

Nosa Omorogbe had a game-high 21 points for Perpetual Help in his return after missing a game due to an injury.

San Sebastian, which blew a double-digit lead, is now 3-0 against Perpetual Help this season.
