Arcilla books Olivarez tennis duel vs Victorino

MANILA—It will be youth versus experience in the men’s singles battle for the title in the First Olivarez-Philta Open Tennis Championship at the Olivarez Sports Center in Parañaque.

Top seed Johnny Arcilla clashes with unheralded Joseph Victorino after the two scored contrasting victories in the tournament supported by Dunlop and sanctioned by the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association.

The 30-year-old Arcilla had to use his sharp serving and precision baseline game to move past fourth pick Rolando Ruel Jr., 6-3, 6-3, in the match that took almost two hours.

Victorino, on the other hand, barely broke sweat in ousting sixth seed Ralph Kevin Barte, 6-0, 6-1, to set up his finals duel with Arcilla.

In men’s doubles, the top-ranked tandem of Arcilla and Patrick John Tierro goes up against the duo of Ronard Joven and Celestino Solon in the finals while Jessica Agra and Bambi Zoleta meet Tamitha Nguyen and Aileen Rogan in women’s doubles.

A whopping P500,000 in cash prize awaits the winners of the event.
