Mexican football game suspended because of gunfire

/ 11:30 AM August 21, 2011

MEXICO CITY – A First Division Mexican football game has been suspended after gunmen opened fire on police outside the stadium in the northern city of Torreon.
The series of detonations caused panic inside the stadium, where Santos was playing Morelia, and players ran for cover on Saturday.

Televised footage showed the players fleeing the field to take cover at the game’s 40-minute mark with the score tied 0-0. Santos’ Argentine forward Santos Emanuel Luduena is seen fleeing carrying his child.

Hundreds of fans, many with children, then ran onto the field to move away from the sound of the gunfire outside TSM stadium.

Torreon police and local soccer officials said the attack left one police officer injured, but no one was hurt inside the stadium.
